Discussion with the National Ombudsman about the 2023 Annual Report

The Interior Affairs committee will meet on Thursday, January 23, with National Ombudsman Reinier van Zutphen. The agenda includes the annual report of the National Ombudsman, Childrens Ombudsman, and Veterans Ombudsman for 2023. The session is from 13:30 to 14:30 and is available live.

The reports title is “Citizen Perspective: A Way of Doing”. In 2023, the ombudsman released several reports on structural problems in the government. The ombudsman also reviewed multiple recovery operations.

Advice

According to the National Ombudsman, citizens benefit from changes in governmental behavior rather than more systems. “Be of service to society as a government. This service is based on trust in the citizen,” said Van Zutphen when he officially presented the report on Tuesday, May 21, 2024.

The National Ombudsman

Citizens with complaints about the government can contact the National Ombudsman. The ombudsmen, sometimes women like Childrens Ombudsman Margrite Kalverboer, aim to be as visible as possible in society. They visit schools, institutions, and provide workshops and training on complaint handling, conflict management, or the citizen perspective in government-citizen relations.

Reinier van Zutphen has been the National Ombudsman since 2015. The National Ombudsman is appointed by the House of Representatives for a period of six years. As of April 2021, Reinier van Zutphen has been reappointed for another six years.
