Amended Security Investigations Act Sent to Parliament

Ministers Uitermark (Interior and Kingdom Relations) and Brekelmans (Defense) have sent the amended Security Investigations Act to the Parliament. The act has been revised to offer more flexibility to sectors where employees frequently change employers in sensitive roles.

The key change is the introduction of a location-based certificate of no objection (vgb). This vgb remains valid when moving to a new role at the same designated location. For example, someone working at an airport who changes employers. This reduces administrative burdens and costs for organizations, and allows for a smoother transition for the employee.

Current Insight into Sensitive Roles

With the amendment, a register will be created to track individuals in sensitive roles. Employers must report to the Unit Security Investigations of the AIVD and MIVD (UVO) when someone assumes or leaves such a role. This ensures UVO maintains an up-to-date overview of all active personnel in sensitive positions.

Finally, some changes have been made to improve the practical implementation and enforceability of the act.
