Marken Harbor Maintenance: Residents Even Bring Coffee

Markens harbor undergoes major renovations as part of levee reinforcement, welcoming community support.

The harbor at Marken is unusually quiet this January, with most boats finding different berths due to substantial renovations aimed at upgrading the area as part of Markens levee strengthening project.

Projects include new piers and paving, with the first phase nearing completion. Builders are active, and local residents have supported workers by occasionally bringing them coffee.

Jochem Doesburg, overseeing the project, remains optimistic despite delays caused by late material delivery and ensures no disturbance to local trade and tourism.

The task involves replacing piers, which requires precise coordination to prevent water flow disruption under the levee. With efforts continuing amid winter winds, the communitys involvement remains strong, aiding in achieving deadlines without compromising safety.
