A simple inn with pottery, pipes, dice, and glasses has been discovered. Archaeologists found these artifacts and the foundations of the 17th-century inn The Red Lion on Sloterweg. These finds and historical data provide insight into life in the inn. From January 23 to February 6, they will be displayed in Sloten.
The pop-up exhibition is visible in 3 showcases on Sloterweg. For three weeks, you can view archaeological finds at the location at Sloterweg 1210, where a grocery store used to be, and in the showcase at Sloterweg 1223, a former bakery. Also in the municipal monument at Dorpsplein, Sloterweg 1226.
Opening
Sandra Doevedans will open the exhibition on January 23 at 4 PM in café-restaurant Kerkzicht, Sloterweg 1209. City archaeologist Thijs Terhorst will share more about the research. You are welcome to listen and then explore the showcases. Admission is free, and no registration is required.

Drawing from the 17th century
The city archive has a special drawing, ‘View of Sloterweg by Inn The Red Lion’, in its collection. This nearly 400-year-old drawing was made by Claes Janz. Visscher. It depicts Sloterweg with trees and the inns sign. This inn was located at the site of the finds.

A die from Inn The Red Lion
Games were played in the inn, including with a die. A 17th-century bone die was found, with dots made by drilling point circles.
