Large events such as Carnival, Kings Night, Kings Day, and the marathon parties attract thousands of visitors to the city and bring with them an energetic atmosphere. At the same time, these events generate significant amounts of waste, of which single-use plastic makes up a large part. Alderman Rik Thijs (Circularity): The city-wide system of reusable deposit cups offers a sustainable and practical solution to this problem, for both visitors and organizers. And very importantly: less plastic waste. Furthermore, it is of course easier for partygoers that they no longer have to pay for a new cup at every location.

Sustainable and Future-Proof

The system of the municipality of Eindhoven has been developed together with (hospitality) entrepreneurs, event organizers, cup experts, and the province to reduce plastic waste. It is a future-proof system that meets the requirements of the European SUP directive: Single Use Plastic to significantly reduce the environmental impact of plastic.

How does it work?

For your first purchase, you pay a one-time extra fee of 1 euro for the reusable cup (0.2 liters). You can use this hard cup in the center at hospitality establishments, on squares, and in tents where festivities take place for your next order. When the party is over? If you return the hard cup, you will get back 0.50 euros. Returns are possible at three return points: 18 September Square, Ten Hagestraat, and Keizersgracht.

New is also the new round with a pitcher of 1.5 liters, the so-called pitcher. You pay 5 euros for a pitcher and when returned you get back 2.50 euros. The pitcher can be refilled at participating locations in the center.
