February Infringements Package: Key Decisions

The European Commissions infringement package targets Member States not complying with EU law. Key decisions ensure that EU law is applied properly, benefiting both citizens and businesses. The Commission is closing 104 cases where issues have been resolved without further procedures. For more details, see the Q&A and the infringement decisions register.

1. Environment

The Commission has opened infringement procedures against Romania for the incorrect transposition of the Single-Use Plastics Directive. France and Italy are also called upon to correctly transpose the Landfill Directive. Additionally, Croatia needs to address bycatch issues under the Habitats Directive.

2. Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs

The Commission is urging Hungary to comply with public procurement rules. Romania is asked to ensure timely payments to businesses, while Slovenia needs to align its lawyer advertising regulations with the Services Directive.

3. Justice

The Netherlands and Portugal must correctly transpose the EU rules on presumption of innocence in criminal proceedings.

4. Energy and Climate

The Commission has sent reasoned opinions to several Member States, including Bulgaria and Spain, for not transposing EU rules on renewable energy projects.
