Inflation Decreases in Bonaire and Increases in Sint Eustatius and Saba

In the fourth quarter of 2024, consumer goods and services in Bonaire were 1.8% more expensive than a year ago. In the third quarter, inflation was still 2.5%. CBS reported this based on the consumer price index Caribbean Netherlands.

In Sint Eustatius, prices increased by 3.4% year-on-year in the fourth quarter of 2024, while in the third quarter it was 3.2%. On Saba, inflation was 2.7% in the fourth quarter of 2024, up from 1.9% the previous quarter.

Price Changes on Bonaire

Prices on Bonaire fell by 0.5% in the fourth quarter compared to the third quarter, mainly due to cheaper transport costs, including an 8.5% drop in airfare and a 6.1% decline in gasoline prices. Clothing and footwear also became cheaper, decreasing by 1.9%.

Conversely, health products increased by 1.8% compared to the previous quarter.

Price Changes on Sint Eustatius

On Sint Eustatius, consumer prices rose by 0.1% in the fourth quarter compared to the third quarter. Food prices increased by 1.7%, particularly fresh vegetables and fruits. Gasoline and diesel prices remained stable.

The price increase this quarter was mitigated by several product groups, such as a 3.7% drop in airfare and a 1.1% reduction in clothing and footwear prices.

Price Changes on Saba

On Saba, prices rose by 0.2% in the fourth quarter of 2024 compared to the previous quarter, with food and drink prices increasing by 3.0%. Here too, fresh vegetables and fruits saw price increases.

Conversely, prices for fuel, health products, and toiletries declined in the fourth quarter of 2024, with gasoline prices dropping by 5.2%.

Average Price Development 2024

In 2024, the average price level on Bonaire was 2.6% higher than in 2023. Sint Eustatius saw a 2.2% increase, while Saba experienced a 2.1% rise. This was mainly due to higher prices for food, transport, and hospitality services.

Preliminary Figures

Preliminary figures for the third quarter of 2024 for Sint Eustatius and Saba have been adjusted due to additional information. The fourth quarter figures for 2024, along with the annual figures for 2024, are preliminary and will be finalized with the publication of the first quarter of 2025.
