In the afternoon of February 18, 2025, an inland vessel struck a lock door of the north chamber in Lith. The lock door was severely damaged as a result. An inspection has taken place, but the damage cannot be fully assessed since it is underwater.
Hoisting out the Lock Door at Lith
Preparations are underway to hoist out the lock door. This is expected to happen in the middle of next week. Until then, the ship will remain trapped in the north chamber.
Assessing Damage to Lith Lock Doors
Only after the lock door is hoisted out can the full extent of the damage be assessed. Only then can it be determined whether a new door is necessary or if the damaged door can be repaired. At this time, the duration of the closure cannot be determined.
Lith Lock Closed for Larger and Taller Ships
Currently, navigation at Lith Lock is closed for larger and taller ships. An alternative route via Weurt is available. The south chamber at Lith is open and suitable for ships up to 113.50 m long and 7.10 m high.
