From February 1 to March 31, 2025, owners of national monuments can apply for subsidies from the Cultural Heritage Agency based on the Maintenance Subsidy Scheme.
The maintenance subsidy is for national monuments that are not residential buildings, such as windmills, churches, or factories. Owners of green and archaeological national monuments are also eligible for this subsidy.

Over € 98 million in subsidies available
The budget for this application round exceeds € 98 million and is divided as follows:
- Archaeological national monuments: € 0.8 million
- Green national monuments: € 14.5 million
- Other national monuments (built): € 78.9 million
- Sustainability studies: € 3.9 million
Due to high demand in previous years for maintenance subsidies for green and built monuments, the subsidy percentages for these categories have been reduced by 10% in this application round. This will allow more applications to be honored. However, high demand is still expected this year. Information on how the budget is allocated in case of oversubscription can be found on the webpage ‘How is the budget distributed?.
Subsidy for sustainability studies
In addition to the subsidy for regular maintenance of their national monument, owners can also apply for a subsidy for a sustainability study. A good study helps to avoid pitfalls in making a monument more sustainable and provides insight into costs and benefits. The actual sustainability improvements are not subsidized under the maintenance scheme.
How to apply for the maintenance subsidy
You can submit your subsidy application through our subsidy portal. A new feature compared to last year is that after submission, you can find a summary of your completed application there.
