With the ongoing war in Ukraine, 12.7 million people need urgent help. The European Commissions new funds will give essential support to the most affected.
The €148 million will sustain vital projects in Ukraine and Moldova, with total EU aid reaching €1.1 billion. Allocations include:
- €140 million for Ukraine for emergency aid like food, shelter, and healthcare, mainly in the hardest-hit east and south regions.
- €8 million for Moldova to assist Ukrainian refugees and local needs, with priorities in finance, healthcare, and education.
EU Commissioner Hadja Lahbib is visiting Ukraine to bolster EU aid efforts, meeting leaders like President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Commissioner Lahbib stopped at the EU Medevac hub in Rzeszów, aiding medical evacuations since March 2022, with 4,000 patients treated thus far.
Since the conflicts start, the EUs humanitarian mission has delivered over 150,000 tonnes of aid via the EU Civil Protection Mechanism, including supplies from rescEU emergency stocks.
Background
Since 2014, the EU has been supporting Ukraines vulnerable with humanitarian aid. Post-February 2022, efforts increased to tackle immense humanitarian challenges by mobilizing over €1.1 billion.
The EU coordinates large aid operations under its Civil Protection Mechanism, sending crucial resources to Ukraine.
