Today, Patrick Lobis has been appointed as the new Head of the European Commission Representation in Vienna, Austria. He will represent the European Commission in Austria under the political authority of President Ursula von der Leyen. He will start in Vienna on February 16, 2025.
Patrick Lobis, an Austrian and Italian national, has extensive experience in communication, political analysis, and management, making him ideal for this role. He is skilled in engaging with various stakeholders, including citizens, media, and institutional partners, ensuring clear EU policy communication. His organizational and political skills support high-level decision-making. His background in representation and administration helps him manage complex tasks while building trust with local communities.
Currently, Mr. Lobis is the Deputy Head of Unit for Political and Economic Intelligence at the European Commissions Directorate-General for Communication. He was Acting Head of the Commission Representation in Berlin and held leadership roles there. His experience in Austria as a political reporter provided valuable insights. Before joining the Commission in 2012, he was a strategy consultant.
Background
The Commission has Representations in all EU Member States capitals, and Regional Offices in Barcelona, Bonn, Marseille, Milan, Munich, and Wroclaw. These Representations are the Commissions eyes, ears, and voice on the ground, interacting with authorities, stakeholders, and citizens, and informing the media about EU policies. Heads of Representations are appointed by the President and act as her political representatives in the Member State.
