The European Commission appoints a new Head of Representation in Dublin

Today, Peter Power has been appointed as the new Head of the European Commission Representation in Dublin, Ireland. He will serve as the official representative of the European Commission in Ireland under the leadership of President Ursula von der Leyen. The start date for his role will be announced later.

Peter Power brings significant political skills, management experience, and representational expertise, making him ideal for leading the European Commission Representation in Dublin. With over ten years in senior roles within the European Commission, he has shown leadership and deep understanding of EU policies and cooperation with Member States. His ability to engage with various stakeholders and strategic insight will support the promotion of EU priorities. His history of managing complex political issues and forming effective partnerships positions him to enhance the Commissions presence in Ireland.

Since 2022, Mr. Power, an Irish national, has been a Senior Adviser to the Director-General of the Directorate-General for European Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations. Previously, he was Head of Cabinet for Commissioner Phil Hogan and Commissioner Mairead McGuinness, gaining valuable expertise in EU-Ireland relations and Commission operations.

Background

The Commission has Representations in all EU Member State capitals and Regional Offices in Barcelona, Bonn, Marseille, Milan, Munich, and Wroclaw. They serve as the Commissions eyes, ears, and voice in Member States, interacting with authorities, stakeholders, and citizens, and communicating EU policies. Heads of Representations are appointed by the Commission President and serve as her political representatives in their respective countries.
