The European Commission has approved a €500 million French scheme to support the chemical recycling of plastic waste, aiming for a circular and resilient economy. France plans to invest in chemical recycling technologies to convert mixed and contaminated plastic waste into high-quality raw materials. This initiative supports the EUs circular economy goals and climate neutrality. Aid will be provided as direct grants, covering up to 40% of eligible costs, and is available to companies of all sizes across all sectors.
The Commission assessed the scheme under EU State aid rules, particularly Article 107(3)(c) TFEU and the 2022 CEEAG. It found the scheme necessary, appropriate, and with minimal impact on competition, allowing for widespread industry participation.
The non-confidential decision will be published under case number SA.108044 in the State aid register once confidentiality issues are resolved.
