Today, the Commission unveils its Vision for Agriculture and Food, outlining a roadmap for a vibrant EU farming and agri-food sector. The plan aims to create an attractive, competitive, resilient, and fair system for both current and future farmers and operators.
Key to this vision is simplifying policies and boosting innovation and digital adoption. In 2025, a simplification package for agricultural legislation and an EU digital strategy for farming will be proposed.
President Ursula von der Leyen emphasizes the vital role of farmers, addressing challenges like global competition and climate change with a strategy for resilience and sustainability.
The Vision prioritizes:
- Attractiveness: Ensuring stability, fair income, and innovation benefits for young farmers. The Commission supports fair trading and will propose a Generational Renewal Strategy in 2025.
- Competitiveness and Resilience: Prioritizing food security and aligning import standards to EU levels. Enhanced focus on livestock and food safety standards is planned.
- Future-proofing: Aligning agriculture with low-carbon goals, rewarding eco-friendly practices, and introducing a Water Resilience Strategy.
- Rural Living Conditions: Launching an updated Rural Action Plan and annual Food Dialogue to address food affordability and innovation.
The future CAP will be more targeted, emphasizing support for active farmers, especially young ones, with a focus on incentives.
