JICN Store Toko Leny: Step Towards Rehabilitation and Employee Retention

Today, Wibo de Vries, director of the Caribbean Netherlands Custodial Institution (JICN), officially opened the internal store Toko Leny. This project was initiated by Karel Martis, whose efforts made this store possible.

Toko Leny allows detainees to purchase essential products and actively contribute to daily operations. They assist with tasks such as packing goods, stocking shelves, and managing inventory. Cashier duties remain reserved for store staff.

In addition to focusing on detainees, the store, initiated by director Wibo de Vries, plays a significant role in retaining experienced employees. It offers job opportunities to older staff who can no longer keep up with regular work. These comfortable positions allow them to continue their careers with dignity.

Currently, three facilitators are working to make the store operational. If everything runs smoothly, job vacancies will be posted to further fill the positions.

Toko Leny serves an important educational and rehabilitative function. Detainees learn to take responsibility, plan, and work within clear rules, preparing them for a successful return to society.

To keep the store safe and respectful, strict rules apply. Items such as drugs, obscene, inciting, and blasphemous products are prohibited.

With the opening of Toko Leny, JICN takes an important step. Thanks to Karel Martiss efforts and director Wibo de Vriess initiative, the store provides opportunities for both detainees and employees. The project demonstrates how rehabilitation and employee retention can go hand in hand.
