House debates animal testing

The permanent committee for Agriculture, Fisheries, Food Security, and Nature will debate animal testing on January 29. Key points include moving towards animal-free innovation. Watch the debate live from 4:00 PM via the livestream and the Debat Direct app.

Representing the cabinet are Jean Rummenie, Secretary of Agriculture, Fisheries, Food Security, and Nature, and Eppo Bruins, Minister of Education, Culture, and Science.

Wassenberg Motion

Also on the agenda is the implementation of a motion by former MP Frank Wassenberg (PvdD) during the OCW ministrys budget review on November 24, 2022. The motion, unanimously accepted, requests a study on reducing tests on non-human primates, such as rhesus, java, and marmoset monkeys.

Research

The motion requested a study on reducing animal testing without affecting essential research for combating life-threatening diseases and public health-threatening outbreaks. The OCW ministry commissioned this study, carried out by an independent committee.
