After a month of festivities, the Christmas tree from the Dam heads to ARTIS on January 9. The Asian elephants and other animals enjoy it.
“The animals love it every year,” says Hans van Zurk, the tree man of the Municipality of Amsterdam. He and his team set up the Christmas tree on the Dam.
Tickle Moment
“The tree provides fun for the elephants and other animals. They carry branches and rub against it. This sustainable way of removing the tree is appreciated by Amsterdammers.”
Transport to ARTIS
“On Thursday, we dismantle the tree and saw it into pieces. These go into a truck to ARTIS, near the giraffes and zebras enclosure. There, a machine assists in carrying the branches to the elephants and the remains for other savannah animals like giraffes and Grevy zebras.”
Happy
The Christmas tree made many people happy, and ARTIS is also pleased with this gift. Hopefully, this will remain an annual tradition. Follow us for a fun video of the animals with the Christmas tree.
