On Wednesday, February 12, Mayor Patricia Hoytink-Roubos awarded a Royal Decoration to Mr. Piet van Reenen (81) from Zetten at the Police Academy in Apeldoorn. He received the Royal Decoration and was appointed Officer in the Order of Orange-Nassau for his long-standing commitment to the police and scientific police research.
Service Record
Mr. Van Reenen has an impressive service record with numerous positions within the Ministry of Justice, the police, Utrecht University, and Amnesty International Netherlands. His positions included:
- Deputy Director of the Study Center for Senior Police Officers
- Advisory Counsel for police and immigration matters at the Ministry of Justice
- Director of the Police Academy
- Police Chief of the Province of Flevoland
- Inspector General at the Ministry of Justice
- Professor of Police and Human Rights
- Chairman and member of the department board of Amnesty International Netherlands
- Member of the police research group of Amnesty International Netherlands
Authority
Mr. Van Reenen is an authority in Dutch scientific police research. He has published numerous articles and given presentations on police violence control, rule of law orientation, and police integrity. On behalf of Amnesty International, he conducted various missions as an observer and trainer of police forces in countries including Suriname, South Africa, China, Mongolia, and Ghana.
Award Ceremony
The award ceremony took place at the Police Academy in Apeldoorn in the presence of family, friends, representatives of the (national) police organization, including Chief Constable Janny Knol, and scientific and academic colleagues. The reason for the application was the desire for appropriate recognition due to Mr. Piet van Reenens long-standing commitment and significance to the police organization in the Netherlands and his contributions to police efforts abroad.
