Curious about the birds in Rotterdam parks? With Luistervink, you can explore the birdlife day and night. Bird watching with your ears! The website launched on January 24.
In the Museum Park, near city farms De Molenwei and De Oedenstee, and the Heemtuin in Kralingse Bos, microphones capture bird sounds. AI identifies the birds, needing only 3 seconds. The AI outperforms most people in recognition.
More focus on urban nature
Luistervink, initiated by Utrechts municipality and ecologists, involves Rotterdam for urban bird discovery. It raises awareness of urban nature. Seen a bird on Luistervink? Visit and see if you can spot it!
On luistervink.nl, listen to birds, see their images, and check how often their sounds are heard.
Started last year in Utrecht, now in 4 parks. Luistervink provides extensive bird data. Officially launched January 24 in Zuiderpark by Joop Polfliet and Jasper Boele.
Collaboration
The municipality collaborates with Natuurstad and the Natural History Museum Rotterdam. Natuurstad considers integrating Luistervink into their curriculum. Visit www.luistervink.nl/rotterdam for more information.
