A 51-year-old man who was found dead in a canal in The Hague in the summer of 2023 was pushed there by an acquaintance. He recently confessed this to the police and is now in custody on suspicion of manslaughter.
The 42-year-old suspect from The Hague was arrested two weeks ago for shoplifting. At the police station, he became emotional and told that he pushed someone into the canal in August 2023 who could not swim. The victim did not survive.
The two knew each other from street life. During an argument at the waters edge, the suspect pushed the victim. The victim fell into the water. The man is suspected of leaving the victim behind, knowing he could not swim, was under the influence, and could not get out of the water at that spot.
The victim was pushed into the water from the Pletterijkade. On August 25, 2023, around 19:15, the lifeless body of the victim was found around the corner along the Uilebomen by passersby in a boat.
