More Bankruptcies in February

In February, 45 more companies were declared bankrupt than in January, reports CBS. This is an increase of 14 percent. The number of bankruptcies has not increased further since 2023. Compared to February 2024, the number of bankruptcies in February was 7 percent higher.

The number of bankruptcies corrected for court days fluctuates significantly. Declines and increases follow each other rapidly. The number of declared bankruptcies peaked at 911 in May 2013. Afterwards, a decline set in, and in August 2021, a low record of 109 was reached. The number of bankruptcies gradually increased again until 2024. Since then, the number of bankruptcies per month has not further increased.

Most bankruptcies in trade

Not corrected for court days, 339 companies and institutions (including sole proprietorships) were declared bankrupt in February. Of all industry sectors, trade had the highest number of bankruptcies, namely 77. That is 13 percent more than in January.

The trade sector is one of the sectors with the most companies. Relatively speaking, the most bankruptcies were declared in the industry sector in February.
