Commission welcomes the integration of the revised Code of Conduct on countering illegal hate speech online into the Digital Services Act
The Commission and the European Board for Digital Services are pleased with the inclusion of the revised Code of Conduct on countering illegal hate speech online into the Digital Services Act framework. This act encourages voluntary codes to mitigate online risks.
The Code of Conduct, which builds upon the 2016 version, was signed by major online platforms like Facebook, TikTok, and YouTube. It aims to enhance platform compliance with EU and national laws regarding illegal hate speech.
Executive Vice-President Henna Virkkunen emphasized that Europe should have no place for hate, online or offline, and highlighted the importance of cooperation for a safe digital space.
Commissioner Michael McGrath stated that hate and polarization threaten EU values and that the Code is vital in ensuring a robust response against these issues.
