President von der Leyen launches Global Energy Transition Forum in Davos
Today in Davos, President von der Leyen launched the Global Energy Transition Forum alongside the Executive Director of the International Energy Agency, Fatih Birol.
At COP28, global leaders committed to tripling renewable energy and doubling energy efficiency by 2030. This deadline approaches swiftly.
The Forum unites partners globally, including nations like Brazil, Canada, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, as well as companies and investors, all aiming to sustain the clean energy transition, deliver key projects, and unlock more investment.
No one should be left behind in the clean energy transition. President von der Leyen emphasized the collective effort needed to enhance Africas renewable energy production. Though Africa holds 60% of the worlds best solar resources and plans to increase its capacity fivefold by 2030, it currently receives less than 2% of global clean energy investments.
This topic will also be addressed at a dinner tonight in Davos, part of the campaign launched with President Ramaphosa of South Africa, Scaling up Renewables in Africa.
The Presidents speech at the launch event is available online. More information on the campaign is available online.
