After Irelands request for help due to power outages from storm Éowyn, the EU Civil Protection Mechanism was activated. The EU quickly sent 13 generators from its strategic reserve, rescEU, located in Poland. Denmark also sent four generators to help restore electricity.

The EU activated the Copernicus Emergency Management Service to provide support to national authorities.

The EUs Emergency Response Coordination Centre is closely monitoring the situation, ready to offer more help if needed.

EU Commissioner Hadja Lahbib stated: “Extreme weather events test Europes resilience but also show our preparedness and solidarity. Our thoughts are with those affected and the first responders in Ireland. We thank Denmark and Poland for their support.”
