Commission seeks views on the future of the European automotive industry

Yesterday, the Commission launched an open public consultation on the future of the European automotive industry. The consultation supports the Strategic Dialogue on the Future of the Automotive Industry in Europe, which started on January 30 under the leadership of President Ursula von der Leyen.

As the European automotive and supplier industry goes through a deep and disruptive transition, the Strategic Dialogue will design concrete strategies and solutions to support the global competitiveness of automotive manufacturing in Europe.

The objective of the Dialogue is to engage with European automotive industry players, social partners and other stakeholders to develop a shared understanding of the most critical challenges and potential solutions, and to translate this into action. Outcomes of the dialogue will inform the work on an EU industrial action plan for the automotive sector, which will be presented on 5 March, led by Commissioner for Sustainable Transport and Tourism Apostolos Tzitzikostas.

To inform the discussions in the Strategic Dialogue, this public consultation invites all participants to share their views on the main themes identified on which urgent action is needed to give the automotive industry a solid future in Europe. The consultation will run until 13 February. Participants can find more information on the consultation process here.
