European Commission and EIB Group lay foundations for a new pan-European investment platform for affordable and sustainable housing

The European Commission and the European Investment Bank (EIB) Group are collaborating with national promotional banks to create financing opportunities for affordable housing across Europe. At the EIB Forum in Luxembourg, Commissioner Dan Jørgensen and EIB President Nadia Calviño emphasized the need for a pan-European effort to finance the upcoming European Affordable Housing Plan.

The EIB Group plans to launch an Action Plan with a new portal to support housing innovation, affordable home construction, and energy-efficient renovations, aiming for €10 billion in investments over two years. The Commission will publish its European Affordable Housing Plan, providing technical assistance and focusing on investment and skills. The plan will also tackle housing speculation and revise state-aid rules to support housing measures, especially in energy efficiency and social housing.

More information can be found in a joint press release.
