President von der Leyen in South Africa to strengthen strategic partnerships and boost trade and investments

On March 13, President Ursula von der Leyen and President António Costa will attend the EU-South Africa Summit in Cape Town. The Summit will reaffirm Europes commitment to its partnership with South Africa, strengthen ties, and address global challenges. President von der Leyen will announce an EU Global Gateway Investment Package to support investments through grants and loans.

This package will support South Africas Just Energy Transition, focusing on green hydrogen projects, critical minerals processing, workforce development, and jobs in the green economy. It will also enhance connectivity through transport corridors, clean logistics, and digitalization, and improve vaccine production capacity and pharmaceutical value chains.

The package will promote capacity building, regulatory strengthening, skills development, and research sustainability standards. The Joint Research Centre of the European Commission and the South African Nuclear Medicine Research Infrastructure will sign a collaboration agreement to accelerate cancer diagnosis and treatment in South African hospitals.

Commission seeks feedback on draft State aid Framework for the Clean Industrial Deal

The European Commission invites stakeholders to comment on the draft State aid Framework for the Clean Industrial Deal (CISAF), open until April 25, 2025. The CISAF will guide Member States in designing aid measures to support the Clean Industrial Deals goals. It will replace the Temporary Crisis and Transition Framework and provide predictability for businesses.

Commission approves Tritons acquisition of Keenfinity

The European Commission approved Tritons acquisition of Keenfinity GmbH under the EU Merger Regulation, concluding it raises no competition concerns due to the companies limited market positions.

Commission clears Ingredion and AGRANA joint venture

The European Commission approved the joint venture by Ingredion and AGRANA for starch production, finding no competition concerns due to the joint ventures negligible activities in the European Economic Area.

Commissioner Síkela visits Central Asia to advance Global Gateway projects

Commissioner Jozef Síkela will visit Central Asia to enhance EU partnerships and promote Global Gateway projects in transport, raw materials, digital connectivity, and energy. Several agreements will be signed during the visit.
