Multidisciplinary Control Against Undermining by RIEC CN Cooperation

On January 28, 2025, morning multidisciplinary controls were carried out at two construction company locations in Bonaire due to suspicions of violations of laws regarding the residence and work of foreigners.
The multidisciplinary control checked if those present had the required documents and ensured compliance with various regulations from different partners.

No direct violations were found during the controls. However, there were indications that require further investigation. The involved partners will conduct further research based on these findings.

The following partners participated in these controls: Labor Inspection, Caribbean Netherlands Police Corps, Royal Marechaussee, Immigration and Naturalization Service C.N., Directorate of Supervision & Enforcement O.L.B., Public Prosecution Service BES in collaboration with the Regional Information and Expertise Center Caribbean Netherlands (RIEC CN).

The RIEC CN plays a crucial role in combating undermining* in Bonaire, Sint Eustatius, and Saba. It is a partnership where all participating partners play a key role by investing in collaboration and sharing information among various agencies. This cooperation enhances the effectiveness of controls and interventions, aiming to ensure safety and integrity on the islands.

*Criminals use legitimate businesses and (government) services for illegal activities, leading to a decline in safety and livability. This effect is also referred to as undermining.
