Soon, Rijkswaterstaat will begin the next phase of replacing sound barriers along the A10 North.
After a slow start, the contractor is now in full swing with demolishing and replacing the sound barriers. The work is being carried out in phases.
Currently, the contractor is working on the Amsterdam side (inner ring) between S118 and S117. All sound barriers are expected to be replaced by autumn 2025.
Completion of Works on A10 North
The following areas will be completed before summer:
- Area 6b in March 2025
- Area 8a in March 2025
- Area 9a in April 2025
- Area 3 in May 2025
- Area 4 in June 2025
After summer, the following areas will be completed:
- Area 7 in October 2025
- Area 9b in October 2025
All traffic measures will be removed by late October, early November.
Midway through the work on the inner ring, work on the outer ring will also commence. This switch is for several reasons:
- The habitat of the rook in areas 7 and 9b. The rook is a protected species, which means work is not allowed during the breeding season (February to July). The final work on the inner ring can resume from August 2025.
- Between April and October 2025, there will be significant work on the roads and highways in and around Amsterdam. It is a complex puzzle to coordinate all these activities properly. The A10 North is a vital detour route during these works. Therefore, the outer ring of the A10 North must be fully available for traffic in summer 2025.
Narrowed Lanes and 90 km/h Speed Limit
Throughout the period, the 3 narrowed lanes and a maximum speed of 90 km/h will remain on the inner ring. Where work is no longer being carried out, temporary sound barriers will be removed. During work on the outer ring, only the right lane will be narrowed, with a maximum speed of 90 km/h. The replacement of the sound barriers is taking longer than expected due to the aforementioned reasons.
This specifically applies to the sound barriers on the inner ring in area 7 and part of area 9b. In area 9b, the sound barriers are still completely intact. For area 7 (approximately 130 meters long), there are damaged sound barriers. These are partially mitigated by temporary sound barriers currently in place along the road.
