Aldi has submitted a plan to address these challenges and renew the supermarket.
Both the Municipality of Breda and Aldi want a supermarket to reopen in the Boeimeer neighborhood as soon as possible, thereby improving the attractiveness of the square. Soon, Aldi will inform the community about the new construction plans and will apply for an environmental permit.
The Municipality of Breda believes it is important for shopping squares to be lively and well-maintained. Alderman Arnoud van Vliet (Retail): “We are pleased with the plans for this supermarket. This will fill the vacant properties and restore the liveliness of the square. This was a wish of many residents and the neighborhood council.”
Aldi wants to start construction work as soon as possible. Raimond van Os, responsible for the development of the new branch on behalf of ALDI Real Estate: “We look forward to developing a future-proof new store at this location that meets the current standards of ALDI. We are glad to be able to work on this now, so that Graaf Hendrik III Square becomes a pleasant place to shop again.”
