NWO agrees to the declaration of intent for Open Research Europe (ORE), along with ten other national research funders, research organizations, and ministries. The signatories aim to support and fund the open-access publication platform for an initial period of five years starting in 2026.
ORE is a non-profit publication platform with open peer review currently funded by the European Commission. Currently, only researchers working on EU-funded projects can publish on ORE. The signatories goal is to expand the platform to include more researchers beyond those with EU grants. Quality, accessibility, diversity, and transparency of scientific publications remain key principles. NWOs affiliation with ORE would mean that all Dutch researchers can publish on ORE without costs.
Other research funders that have signed the declaration include:
- Fonds zur Förderung der wissenschaftlichen Forschung (FWF) (Austria);
- Norges forskningsråd (Norway);
- Forte (Sweden);
- Javna agencija za raziskovalno dejavnost Republike Slovenije (ARIS) (Slovenia);
- Vetenskapsrådet (Sweden);
- Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (FCT) (Portugal);
- Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC) (Spain);
- Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) (Germany);
- Formas (Sweden);
- Agence Nationale de la Recherche (ANR) (France).
