The Public Prosecution Service demanded a five-year prison sentence against a 34-year-old man from Tilburg for importing a total of 114 kilos of methamphetamine (crystal meth) from Belgium to the Netherlands. The suspect was caught red-handed by the police, who saw the drugs in eight big shopping bags on the back seat of the car.
The Nissan Quashqai came into view during another criminal drug investigation, after which a tracker was placed under the vehicle. On April 9, 2024, the car was stopped on the A58 (near Gilze) while driving from Belgium to the Netherlands. The Tilburg suspect was the driver of the car.
Back Seat
The officers attention was drawn to the back seat of the car, which was folded down and filled with the loaded shopping bags. In the bags, the police found plastic containers with white crystals resembling crystal meth. The suspect was then arrested. Further investigation revealed that he was transporting 114 kilos of methamphetamine, with a street value of approximately 7 million euros.
From two phones of the suspect, it appears that he had been communicating via Signal about the production and transportation of methamphetamine for a long time.
Brothers
The investigation also identified two co-defendants, two brothers. The Nissan was registered in the name of one of them, and DNA from both brothers was found on the bags containing drugs. The men have been arrested in France and Spain and are both suspected of involvement in the importation of methamphetamine. The substantive hearing of their case is scheduled for May 13, 2025.
The court will deliver its ruling in the case against the driver on January 28.
