Public Prosecution Service demands thirty years in prison for murder, attempted murder, and preparation of assassination

On the night of October 11-12, 2023, the life of an 18-year-old man was brutally ended. The same night, the same man shot at a 17-year-old boy, who miraculously survived. The 24-year-old suspect, who is now in court, is, according to the investigation, the only perpetrator of the murder of the 18-year-old victim and the attempted murder of the 17-year-old victim.

Victim knew shooter

The 17-year-old victim knew the suspect and stated that the suspect picked him and the later murdered 18-year-old man up in a Land Rover Discovery. At the business site, he forced the 18-year-old to get out and then shot him multiple times at close range. Immediately after, he also shot the 17-year-old victim several times at close range.

The Land Rover Discovery, a stolen car with stolen license plates, was found burned out a day later, one and a half kilometers from the suspects home near a football club where he used to play. Surveillance footage, telecom data, intercepted conversations, and ANPR data from the Land Rover Discovery support the statement of the 17-year-old victim.

Preparation of assassination

According to the Public Prosecution Service, the motive for the suspects actions should be sought in a failed plan to assassinate a 36-year-old man from Amsterdam. The Public Prosecution Service suspects the suspect of preparatory actions for the murder of this 36-year-old man. The suspect allegedly suspected that the 18-year-old man had spoken about the plans to kill the man. The intended target fled abroad almost immediately after being warned by the police that he was in danger. Therefore, the intended assassination could not be carried out at that time.

The 17-year-old victim and a then 20-year-old man from Amsterdam were also suspected of involvement in the preparation of this assassination. Both have since been convicted by the Amsterdam court.

The prosecutors in their indictment: “The suspect committed crimes of the heaviest category on two occasions in quick succession. First, he made preparations to assassinate someone, and then he murdered the 18-year-old man whom he held responsible for having ‘snitched’ on him. (-) When the 17-year-old victim did not stay in the car but got out, the suspect did not hesitate and opened fire on him as well. That he survived is not due to the actions of the suspect.”
