On February 18, 2025, a new application round for the Circular Plastics NL (CPNL) subsidy will open. With the CPNL, entrepreneurs and researchers solve bottlenecks in recycling plastics together with chain partners. Since the last opening, the scheme has been expanded at several points. Entrepreneurs and researchers who were previously ineligible may now qualify. CPNL is part of the Growth Fund program of the same name.
Research on Recycling Technology
Previously, the subsidy was primarily for entrepreneurs and researchers recycling specific types of plastics from certain applications, such as household waste. This application period focuses the subsidy on research and further development of recycling technologies, which can include chemical recycling, mechanical recycling, and dissolution. The latter is a recycling method where only the desired polymer dissolves and the rest does not. There is now also funding for research focusing on the beginning of the recycling chain, such as automatically sorting large plastic items and research into analysis techniques that sort inline during a production process.
Subsidy for Research on Microplastics
Entrepreneurs receive subsidies for a research project or showcase and can choose from various topics. This opening specifically includes topics for the recycling of technical plastics and soft PVC. New is that entrepreneurs and researchers can apply for a research project on microplastics, which may involve characterizing microplastics and possibilities to reduce them in the recycling chain, such as during collection, washing, and sorting.
Test Project Idea
Entrepreneurs and researchers curious about whether their project idea qualifies for this subsidy can receive personal advice. They can test their CPNL project idea without obligations. After submission, an RVO advisor will contact them.
Workshop on Drafting a Project Plan
On March 17, Stichting Circular Plastics NL, together with the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO), will organize a workshop focusing on creating a project plan. Entrepreneurs will receive tips, tricks, and practical guidelines for drafting that plan. Register on the CPNL page.
