New Subsidy Assists Entrepreneurs Facing Grid Congestion

A new subsidy helps entrepreneurs who are struggling due to grid congestion.

Companies and institutions are increasingly facing issues due to a full electricity grid. Therefore, from April 1, they can apply for Flex-e subsidies from the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO). This subsidy provides financial support to make their electricity use more flexible, enabling them to continue growing or become more sustainable even when the grid is full.

What is Flex-e?

The subsidy is for companies and institutions with a contracted transport capacity (the maximum amount of electricity they can draw through a grid connection) of 100 kW or more. Its important that these companies are in areas where the grid is full (congestion areas). With the subsidy, entrepreneurs can:

  1. conduct a flexibility scan to investigate how their electricity consumption can be made more flexible.
  2. conduct a feasibility study on one or more of these measures to see if they will indeed make electricity use more flexible.
  3. invest in these measures.

Collaborating to Use Energy More Wisely

The full electricity grid challenges entrepreneurs, governments, and grid operators to use the available space on the grid more consciously and efficiently. Sometimes companies cannot continue to grow or become more sustainable because the grid is full. Flexible electricity use helps with this. Additionally, flexible electricity use can save costs and contribute to sustainability during times of grid congestion.

Webinar: Everything About Flex-e and the Application Process

On Monday, March 10, 2025, from 14:00 to 15:00, RVO is organizing a free webinar about Flex-e. During this session, RVO will extensively explain the subsidy, the conditions, and the application process. Entrepreneurs will also have the opportunity to ask questions and receive practical tips on the application process.
