The RVO has approved the programs of 11 producer organizations in the vegetable and fruit sector. The organizations will receive approximately € 165 million in European subsidies. This funding is intended to green and improve Dutch vegetable and fruit cultivation.
Measures for the Future
The measures from the programs focus on energy saving, sustainable energy generation, and storage. This includes replacing existing lighting with LED lighting, energy-efficient cooling, solar panels, geothermal energy, and heat pumps.
The producer organizations are also focusing on cultivating new products and varieties. The new varieties are, for example, less sensitive to extreme weather conditions and climate change. The programs also contribute to innovation and research, such as improved cultivation methods, different crops, and technologies.
Subsidy from SIG&F
The subsidy amount comes from the Sectoral Intervention Vegetables and Fruit (SIG&F) 2025. This is part of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP). The sector itself also contributes nearly € 79 million. The subsidy allows the sector to green and improve faster.
The SIG&F contributes to greener and better vegetable and fruit production with the following goals:
- good quality of agriculture and horticulture
- a better climate
- better water quality
- healthy and available food
