New Precautionary Measures for Calf Sector Due to Foot-and-Mouth Disease in Germany

New precautionary measures for the calf sector due to foot-and-mouth disease in Germany.

The Minister of LVVN has introduced new precautionary measures for the calf sector. There is a nationwide ban on the transport of veal calves and a visitor ban. The only exception is transport to slaughterhouses.

This decision followed the import of calves from Brandenburg, Germany into the Netherlands via various collection centers. On January 10, 2025, it was revealed that some water buffalo in Brandenburg were infected with foot-and-mouth disease (FMD). Currently, there is no indication or suspicion of infection in the Netherlands.
