Public Prosecution Service demands prison and TBS for attempted manslaughter in Emmer-Compascuum

On July 17, 2023, the suspect violently kicked and punched a 30-year-old local resident multiple times near the intersection of Spoel and Runde N.Z. in his hometown.

The suspect struck the victim multiple times in the face seemingly out of nowhere. After the victim fell, the suspect continued. While the victim lay on the ground, he was hit eleven times and kicked five times. The suspect also deliberately kicked the victim in the face once. The victim sustained a skull base fracture and was unconscious for a considerable time.

Footage
The very serious violent incident is captured on camera. Bystanders also filmed it and several witnesses have testified about it. The suspect admits to hitting the victim, claiming it was in self-defense. However, based on the footage, recordings, and statements, the prosecutor comes to a different conclusion. He believes that if there was indeed a situation of self-defense, the victim should have been able to invoke it.

Explosion of violence
The prosecutor states that the victim still suffers from the consequences of the incident and is fortunate to be alive, given the violence used. Furthermore, this explosion of violence took place in broad daylight, in front of unsuspecting passersby. The prosecutor said: “You can’t imagine being a witness to this, or that your children might walk by and witness it. The suspects actions create feelings of fear and insecurity for the victim and also in the village of Emmer-Compascuum.”

Pieter Baan Centre
The suspect has been examined at the Pieter Baan Centre. Experts conclude that there is a disorder and that the likelihood of reoffending is high. They consider him to be partially accountable. Therefore, the prosecutor demands not only a prison sentence but also TBS with compulsory treatment.

The court in Assen will deliver its verdict in two weeks.
