The 2025 ICT Research Award goes to Prof. Hannes Mühleisen, a leading researcher at CWI, Amsterdam, and professor at Radboud University. He is honored for developing DuckDB, a revolutionary open-source analytical database system. With over 10 million downloads monthly, DuckDB facilitates online analytical processing and is utilized by Fortune 500 companies. The project spurred the creation of DuckDB Labs, offering commercial services. Governed by the DuckDB Foundation, the software remains open source. The jury highlighted Mühleisen’s role in bridging data science and database technology, heralding new opportunities in data analysis. He will receive his award at NWO ICT.OPEN2025 on April 15-16 in Utrecht.
