On Friday, February 14, in Munich, the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen and the President of the European Council António Costa met with the President of Ukraine Volodymir Zelenskyy.
President von der Leyen and President Costa reaffirmed their commitment to sustained and stable support for Ukraine until a just, comprehensive, and lasting peace is achieved.
They emphasized that only such a peace would ensure a sovereign and prosperous Ukraine and secure the safety of Ukraine and Europe.
They expressed their intent to strengthen Ukraine ahead of any future negotiations by providing robust security assurances.
They stressed the importance for Europeans to increase their defense spending and enhance their defense capabilities to support the Ukrainian armed forces.
Lastly, President von der Leyen and President Costa showed their willingness to expedite Ukraines accession process to the European Union.
