Senate Supports Ban on New Psychoactive Substances

The Senate voted on a bill from State Secretary Karremans and Minister Van Weel that bans new psychoactive substances and counters their trade and production. Parties like OPNL, SGP, D66, and others supported it, while GroenLinks-PvdA, Volt, FVD, and PvdD opposed. The bill targets substances like fentanyls and ingredients for designer drugs. A motion to promote test facilities at festivals was rejected.

Rejected Motion

  • The motion by Nicolaï c.s. to promote festival test facilities was advised against by the state secretary.

About the Bill

The bill adds a new list, List IA, to the Opium Act, which includes substance groups rather than individual substances. It aims to protect public health and combat illegal drug industry activities.
