Quick Estimate Price Development Bonaire

The quick estimate for Bonaire provides an indication of price development at the main level for Bonaire over a quarter. The two consecutive estimates are calculated based on the first, respectively the first two months of a quarter. In the quick estimate, CBS only publishes a preliminary quarterly and annual change on the entire CPI figure and no index figure. The preliminary quarterly change (Q1 2025 so far) is +1.8% and the preliminary annual change is +3.5%.

The quick estimates are not suitable for use for indexing. Therefore, no index figures are published. The changes of the quick estimate are marked as preliminary.

Currently, the quick estimates are only made for Bonaire. For Sint Eustatius and Saba, the source material is currently insufficient for a quick estimate.

What is the CPI?

The quarterly publication of price development of goods and services that consumers purchase on the islands of Bonaire, Sint Eustatius, and Saba. These three islands together form Caribbean Netherlands. Price development is represented as a price index: the consumer price index (CPI).

The annual change of the CPI is an important indicator for inflation. The annual change is calculated as the percentage change of the CPI in the reporting quarter compared to the same quarter a year earlier.

What kind of research is being done?

The research is based on monthly price observations at companies and institutions that provide goods and services to consumers. The monthly price observation is used to calculate average prices per quarter. Based on these average prices, the price index figures of goods groups are calculated. The price index figures of the goods groups are weighted and aggregated into the total consumer price index.

For the two consecutive quick estimates for Bonaire, the data from the first respectively the first two months are used.

What observation method?

A part of the prices is noted by interviewers in stores. In addition, CBS uses written surveys and internet observations.
