Thank you!
I am one of the few who usually enjoys winters. Most people prefer summer, but I love the cold, crisp air. However, this has changed in recent years, as winter makes me think of Ukraine. We all consider how a brutal winter, combined with attacks from Russia, affects the people of Ukraine.
The European Union stands with you in solidarity, and we are committed to supporting you. I want to thank the Danish Government and companies like Vestas for their efforts in Ukraine.
First, ensuring a safe energy supply for Ukraine is a priority. Since February 2022, the EUs support for Ukraines energy sector has exceeded €2 billion. This includes financing through the Union Civil Protection Mechanism and the Ukraine Energy Support Fund for transformers and mobile gas turbines.
Safety is crucial. We have supported AEIAs safety missions at all Ukrainian nuclear power plants with EU contributions and expertise.
A second priority is integrating Ukraine into the EU energy market. In 2022, Ukraines grid was synchronized with the Continental European Network, allowing increased electricity exports to Ukraine and Moldova.
Lastly, decarbonizing energy systems is vital. Ukraines National Energy and Climate Plan, adopted in June 2024, outlines a path to green recovery.
Security, integration, and decarbonization are key priorities. I am pleased with todays agreement where DTEK and Vestas contribute significantly to these goals:
- Supporting Ukraines energy security with a new wind farm providing clean energy to 900,000 homes.
- Strengthening EU integration by connecting resources across Europe.
- Supporting decarbonization with 64 new turbines, making it the largest wind farm in Eastern Europe.
This agreement is a reminder that despite winters challenges, spring is near.
Thank you!
