Thank you, Prime Minister, dear Denys,
Excellencies,
Dear colleagues and friends,
Today marks a somber anniversary: three years of war and destruction, but also of incredible courage and resilience from the Ukrainian people. We admire how you continue to resist Russias attacks and the reforms you have implemented despite the war. Your efforts to join the European Union are impressive, and we remain steadfast in our support. Ukraines future and that of our continent are at stake. We support diplomatic efforts that uphold your interests and continue to pressure Russia with economic sanctions. We will not forget the crimes in Bucha and Mariupol. Ukraine can count on us. We now discuss the next steps for our common future.
First, we look at EU accession. We are working together to open negotiations and are already integrating Ukraine into the internal market. This year, Ukrainian products will access the European market.
Second, we want to strengthen our defense cooperation. We learn a lot from Ukraines innovative defense industry. We will expand our support through the EU Defense Innovation Office in Kyiv.
Third, justice is essential for lasting peace. We are working on a Special Tribunal for Ukraines aggression.
Fourth, we aim for energy security. We have prepared an ambitious package to ensure energy supply and integrate Ukraines energy market into ours.
Finally, it is not just about business, but mainly about people. We think of Ukrainian children and students pursuing education in the EU, hoping for a just peace so they can return home.
Dear Denys, I look forward to a productive exchange between the College and the government.
