Ladies and Gentlemen,
I am delighted to discuss pollution and our path to zero pollution. Environmental risks are among the top global threats, with pollution being a major concern affecting health and the economy. Air pollution alone causes numerous health issues and economic damage. The European Commission has updated pollution targets and proposed new air quality rules.
Today, we present the Zero Pollution Monitoring and Clean Air Outlook reports and launch the Zero Pollution Dashboard, offering transparency and comparisons across European regions. While improvements are noted, challenges in transport and waste remain, especially concerning forever chemicals like PFAS.
Our policy approach focuses on implementation, policy integration, international cooperation, investments, and innovation. Effective legislation and cooperation with Member States are essential for achieving zero pollution. We must integrate pollution reduction into various policies, including agriculture and the circular economy.
International collaboration is vital, as pollution knows no borders. Investments in zero pollution yield high returns and support climate and resource goals. Innovation in clean technologies will drive economic growth.
Our legislation aims to set clear standards with minimal administrative burden. The Zero Pollution Stakeholder Platform highlights the importance of regional cooperation.
Together, we can achieve clean air, water, and soil, ensuring a sustainable future.
Thank you.
