Press Remarks by Executive Vice-President Mînzatu on the Union of Skills

Good afternoon. In todays College meeting, we covered significant topics. First, we had a conversation with the World Bank Groups president, Mr. Ajay Banga. We approved the Action Plan for the Automotive Sector and the Communication for Decarbonisation of Corporate Fleets. Commissioner Apostolos Tzitzikostas will provide further details soon.

The Union of Skills was also adopted, alongside action plans for Basic Skills and STEM Education. Well continue developing plans for vocational training and teacher development. Our focus is on addressing skill and labor shortages with initiatives like the Skills Guarantee for Workers and the Skills Portability Initiative.

To tackle skill fragmentation, we propose a European VET degree and an EU Talent Pool to attract international talent. Governance improvements and an EU Skills Observatory will support these efforts with strategic dialogues and data integration.

We aim for ambitious STEM targets, including increasing female participation. These initiatives are crucial for Europes competitiveness. Thank you.
