Ladies and gentlemen,
We have just adopted an Industrial Action Plan for the Automotive Sector.
The plan keeps Europes carmakers, suppliers, and related services innovative and competitive.
The industry contributes 7% to EU GDP and employs around 13.8 million people.
However, the sector is threatened by supply chain risks, energy costs, and staff shortages.
Our companies are falling behind on strategic technologies like batteries and autonomous vehicles.
Our action plan includes initiatives in five areas: innovation, clean mobility, competitiveness, skills, and a level playing field.
Funding of up to 50 billion euros for clean tech and mobility is available.
Innovation and digitalization are central; we must regain leadership in AI vehicles.
Emission standards for new vehicles provide certainty for investors.
We are working on regulations for corporate fleets, which account for 60% of EU car sales.
We encourage social leasing and the installation of charging points.
Competitiveness and supply chain resilience are essential; Europe must produce its own batteries.
The social dimension should not be forgotten; we need to attract and train workers with the right skills.
International trade agreements will promote a level playing field.
The next generation of vehicles will be made in Europe and powered by European technology and values.
Thank you.
