On International Holocaust Remembrance Day, we reflect on 80 years since the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau. We remember the horrors of the Holocaust. Six million Jews and millions of others were murdered, 1.1 million in Auschwitz.
Today, we witness a worrying rise in antisemitism in Europe, unseen since World War II. We strongly condemn the rise of antisemitic incidents, Holocaust denial and distortion, and conspiracy theories against Jews.
It is more crucial than ever to take responsibility in honoring the victims. We are determined to combat antisemitism and protect and promote Jewish life in Europe. We denounce all forms of discrimination and racism and will take strong measures against these threats to democracy.
Respect for human dignity, freedom, democracy, equality, and human rights, including the freedoms of expression and religion, as well as minority rights, must and will guide our actions, in line with the values of the European Union.
Never again is now.
