At this stage, we have not received any official notification regarding additional tariffs on EU goods. We will not respond to vague announcements without details or written clarification. The EU sees no justification for imposing tariffs on its exports. We will take measures to protect the interests of European businesses, workers, and consumers from unjustified actions.
Generally, the imposition of tariffs would be unlawful and economically detrimental, especially considering the deeply integrated production chains established between the EU and the U.S. through transatlantic trade and investment. Tariffs are essentially taxes. By imposing tariffs, the U.S. would tax its own citizens, increase business costs, and fuel inflation. Moreover, tariffs increase economic uncertainty and disrupt the efficiency and integration of global markets.
