Good afternoon, I am pleased to be here with my friend António Costa to welcome the Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau. The relationship between the European Union and Canada is one of beneficial investment and trade; it is a story of good allies and trusted friends – and trust is very much needed in an unpredictable world. I am looking forward to discussing the topics of Canadas G7 Presidency, such as unwavering support for Ukraine, decarbonization of our economies, increasing competitiveness, moving towards circularity, and of course trade. Trade can be very beneficial and lead to a win-win situation. CETA has proven this. Since its implementation, trade and investment on both sides have increased by 66%. This is excellent and beneficial for both parties. It is good for consumers; it is good for businesses; and it is good for people on both sides of the Atlantic.
